Acupuncture is a relatively painless, deeply relaxing experience when practised by a well-trained practitioner. Only single-use, hair-thin, and stainless steel needles are used, which are barely felt as they are inserted. A typical sensation after needle is inserted is dull pressure or a mild achiness. Often, patients report a feeling of tingling or warmth during the treatment. In addition, moxa (applying heat to the points), cupping and massage may be used to enhance the treatment. It is not unusual for people to report long-lasting feeling of deep calm and relaxation after acupuncture treatment.
